What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Myofunctional therapy is a specialized form of treatment that focuses on correcting improper muscle function in the mouth and face. This therapy aims to improve functions such as chewing, swallowing, and speaking, and it can also address issues like mouth breathing and thumb sucking. It involves exercises and techniques that retrain and strengthen the muscles of the mouth and face, improving both oral function and overall facial aesthetics. Myofunctional therapy is often used as part of a comprehensive approach to treating issues such as tongue thrust, sleep apnea, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Ways To Work With Us

APT’S SPECIALIZED MYOFUNCTIONAL
THERAPY PROGRAMS

APT’s Specialized Myofunctional Therapy Programs offer tailored solutions for your child’s oral health and development. Our Intensive Myo Programs cater to more complex needs, while our Play-Based Myo Approach makes therapy fun and engaging. For toddlers and young children, MyoMini helps establish healthy oral habits early on. Whatever your child’s stage, we provide personalized care to promote optimal oral function and overall well-being.

Intensive Myo Programs

  • Tailored for children capable of committing to a minimum of 8-weeks of weekly services, this approach requires commitment to the individualized plan of care created by your therapist and adherence to therapy schedule as well as home program.

  • Sessions last 30-45 minutes, during which the child actively participates in targeted exercises. Additionally, a structured home exercise program (2-3 times daily) is prescribed to further reinforce progress.

  • Parents are an integral part of this program and are expected to be present for all sessions, ensuring continuity and support for the child's development.

Play-Based Myo Approach

  • A unique take on myofunctional therapy, this approach prioritizes enhancing myofunctional skills through playful activities and engagement. While results may take longer to manifest, the emphasis is on creating a comfortable environment where children have fewer expectations placed on them.

  • Sessions are longer and infused with playful elements to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience for your child.

MyoMini for Toddlers & Tykes

  • Specifically designed for our little ones, this modified myofunctional therapy program is less intensive and play-based. It focuses on improving myofunctional skills in a manner that toddlers can readily engage with and enjoy.

  • By incorporating playful activities, this program aims to nurture essential myofunctional abilities in a way that aligns with your child's developmental stage.
